Campus Tech Support

As the ITRC, I can tell you that I spend more of my time on the technology part of the title than the instructional part. This morning I have spent a half hour with some 5 th graders on EZ tech and two full hours unjamming a printer, troubleshooting internet connections, moving EOL computers and replacing classroom computers, all by request of teachers. I spent a good deal of time at the beginning of the year setting up a computer lab, only to find out that we will have to dismantle it at the end of the year due to space considerations.

A person dedicated to this type of troubleshooting would allow me to focus on the instructional aspect of this title rather than the hardware. As it is, the classroom teachers are occasionally using technology applications with their students, but we need more.

Future Vision and Direction

Ridgetop aspires to be “advanced” within the next three years. We want to be able to integrate technology seamlessly into our curriculum, not just a class unto itself. Teachers should be comfortable and confident with their technology skills rather than afraid of it. Students in PreK through 2 nd should be building a foundation in technology, whereas students in 3 rd through 5 th should be able to begin applying these skills in a project/product based environment.

Campus Improvement Plan Alignment

Our Technology focus on the CIP will include closing the achievement gap concerning the digital divide amongst our students. The results from the last several TLAs clearly shows the gap between students with access to home computers and those without. Also, the use of innovation stations and district provided subscriptions to web-sites such as BrainPop will integrate nicely with the science and math curriculum.
