Campus Tech Support
Metz has employed a full-time, campus-based technology support specialist for the past 14 school years. With only slight variations year
to year, the position enables direct instructional support to teachers and students in the school's computer lab (41% of 2008-09 worktime),
hardware and software setup, troubleshooting and repair (32%), and computer-assisted student record management and reporting (17%).
Future Vision and Direction
Ideally within three years, Metz will (1) provide sufficient staffing and other resources to maintain or raise its STaR Chart technology
readiness ratings in all categories to "advanced" or "target," (2) earmark appropriate sums for hardware replacement, acquisition of
new classroom technologies, online subscriptions, and related technology resources, (3) assure that teachers not only integrate
technology into instruction in all content areas, but provide students with explicit, whole-class technology instruction, (4) assure that
teachers strike an appropriate balance between technology instruction on the one hand, and the application of technology skills to
creating curriculum-related computer products on the other, (5) assure that teachers are aware of the technology IPGs for their
respective grade levels and succeed in implementing them, (6) assure that teachers are skilled in the use of the school's computer
projection systems, document cameras, camcorders, digital cameras, CD/DVD burners and scanners, and (7) achieve scores on the
year-end 5th-grade Technology Literacy Assessment at or above the AISD average.
Campus Improvement Plan Alignment
This year's CIP (page 28) includes an explicit target for improving student achievement in technology, namely that at least 90% of
2nd-5th students will create at least 4 technology-based products. Objectives 1.1, 1.8, 2.1, 2.5 and 2.6 of the school's 2009-2010
technology plan (pages 6-7, below) detail how lesson planning, student assignments, staff training and related staff support will be
programmed next year to meet the CIP technology target.
