(8.11) Geography: The student understands the location and characteristics of places and regions of the United States, past and present. Obj. 5 The student will use critical thinking skills to analyze social studies information. (8.30) Social Studies Skills. The student applies critical-thinking skills to organize and use information acquired from a variety of sources including electronic technology. Texas and Texans textbook, map pencils seacoast, plain, basin, escarpment, aquifer, barrier island, fault plateau, savannah, grassland, drought, erosion, peninsula, bay mountain range, latitude, longitude Complete “People Hunt” or What would you rather be? (Serves as a warm up and a getting to know you activity) 1. Go over the People Hunt or other Getting to know you activity so the whole class gets to know one another. 2. Do warm up #1 and go over or (can take a grade) [15 min.] 3. Give Pre-Test. Following the pre-test, students work quietly at desk filling in symbols chart (text –72-73), Coat of Arms, or Table of Contents [1 hour] 4. United Streaming- “Globes, Maps and Graphs” from Geography Basics - show Latitude and Longitude only for a review - show whole movie for a thorough review Students complete questions if they watch the whole video. [30 min] 5. Do ONE of these: “Reading the Position of Ships at Sea”, “Coordinates of Texas Cities”, or “Locate Texas”. [30 min] Texas Geography Review Map [1 hour] 6. Everyone complete the Geographic Dictionary Activity last- to be completed with available time (may have to work on for several days to complete). 7.
