Middle School TEKS Modifications March, 2010 GRADE 6 116.22 6.1 Movement. The student demonstrates competency in movement patterns and proficiency in a few specialized movement forms. The student is expected to: perform basic locomotor skills attempting to demonstrate proper technique of requested skill move to put themselves in appropriate position to move an object in requested direction perform basic locomotor skills attempting to demonstrate proper technique of requested skill move in patterns to a variety of music show a specific responsive gesture to jump rope activity release an object towards a target using a variety of manipulatives make contact with an object using modified equipment identify various pieces of equipment used to strike an object using picture symbols or gestures perform basic object control skills demonstrating proper technique perform 2 hand catch skills moving arms in front of body in preparation for catch 116.22 6.2 Movement. The student applies movement concepts and principles to the learning and development of motor skills. The student is expected to: physically demonstrate movements associated with a variety of skills make change in movements based on verbal/physical feedback demonstrate individual parts of a skill 116.22 6.3 Physical activity and health. The student exhibits a health enhancing, physically active lifestyle that provides opportunities for enjoyment and challenge. The student is expected to: participate in appropriate exercises for developing flexibility using verbal cues or assistance record their height, weight, and take pulse with teacher assistance 116.22 6.4 Physical activity and health. The student knows the benefits from involvement in daily physical activity and factors that affect physical performance. The student is expected to: distinguish between aerobic and anaerobic activities using picture symbols identify foods that increase or reduce bodily functions using picture symbols identify healthy and non-healthy food choices using picture symbols 116.22 6.5 Physical activity and health. The student understands and applies safety practices associated with physical activities. The student is expected to: stay within a safe distance from peers while using equipment match proper attire and equipment to activity using picture symbols 116.22 6.6 Social development. The student understands basic components such as strategies and rules of structured physical activities including but not limited to, games, sports, dance and gymnastics. The student is expected to: demonstrate game and sport knowledge by appropriate placement of equipment for game set-up activate switch during game situations to signal score change during game 116.22 6.7 Social development. The student develops positive self-management and social skills needed to work independently and with others in physical activity settings. The student is expected to: demonstrate good sportsmanship during activity by taking turns, sharing equipment, etc. demonstrate appropriate behavior when conflicts arise follow rules while playing sports and games accept decisions made by teacher, game officials, etc. demonstrate good sportsmanship behavior to peers and opponents during game situation by cheering, high fives, etc. modify games/activities to improve the game/activity
