Obj. 1 The student will demonstrate in understanding of issues and events in U.S. History. [15 min.] 1. Show the video from the Declaration of Independence Road Trip to review the U.S. Declaration. [15 min] 2. Then use the Grievances of the Texas Declaration of Independence or Stepping Towards Independence to review the Texas Declaration (follow the lesson plan attached). [30 min] 3. Complete the activity “Which Declaration of Independence is it?” (comparing the Texas and U.S. Declarations). [30 min] 4. OPTION: Show video segments of United Streaming videos Almost Painless Guide to the Executive Branch and/or Legislative Branch. Remind students that while these videos discuss the U.S. government, it is the same for Texas. [5-10 min.] 5. Have students complete the Texas Government scavenger hunt using their textbook or compete the chart on the functions of the three branches. [45 min.] 6. Complete Texas and Texans Vocabulary 28-30 or use these words as a word bank for government puzzle. [30 min.] 4. OPTION: Play the game- Balance of Powers Game (review with students the separation of powers and duties before playing). As a twist, you could let them use their work or book to help them at first if you wanted. [15-20 min.] 6.
