WOW Game Title: Even/Odd Math Dribble Content Area: Math TEKS Focus: Counting to 100 Patterns Physical Education Unit: Ball Handling Grade: Kinder Resource: PE Central, www.pecentral.org Equipment/Materials: 1 playground ball per student, stop watch. Set Up: Students are in scattered formation Activity: Kinder students will dribble the ball – catch and bounce with two hands, advanced students will dribble with one hand. Explain the difference between dominant (the hand you use the most) and non-dominant (the other) hands. On the teacher’s command, the students either catch or bounce with two hands or dribble with their dominant hand (advanced students) while reciting the even numbers. The teacher can use a stop watch to see what number they get to in 30 seconds. The student then switches to their nondominant hand and dribbles while reciting the even numbers for 30 seconds. The teacher walks around to check individual students. Variations Put students in pairs. Have one partner count the number of times the other student is dribbling. Students dribble with dominant hand while counting odd numbers. Students dribble with non-dominant hand while counting odd numbers. Students skip count (2’s, 3’s, 5’s, 10’s). Students count to 100. Review Questions: Skill focus: Was it easier to dribble with your dominant hand or your nondominant hand? Academic focus: Did you count more even numbers or odd numbers in 30 seconds?
