Equipment/Materials: Texas map, 4 large cone, North, South, East West Labels
taped to the cones.
Set Up:
North
West
East
South
Activity:
On the signal the students will move around the general playing area inside the cones.
The teacher should choose a locomotor skill to move with (walking, jogging, skipping,
galloping). On the stop signal the students will freeze. The teacher will call out a
direction (north, south, east west, northeast, southeast, etc.). The students will perform a
skill (sliding, hopping, jumping, flying) in the direction that the teacher called out.
Repeat.
Variations:
 Teacher may say we are in Austin Texas and we want to visit San Antonio,
students will move toward the south.
Review Questions:
Skill Focus: What does sliding look like? Galloping? Skipping?
Academic Focus: Turn toward the northwest, southwest, northeast, southeast.
