Week 26 Pre-Kindergarten P.E. IPG’s Guideline None Matrix #608 Week #26 Card #24 Description For every five students, one person is the tagger. The taggers try to softly tag other students. The tagged students must perform a task to be able to play again. Equipment Foam ball or large glove (for tagging) Strategies Band-Aid Tag This week, we will play tag games. All of the tag games are played basically the same way. The only thing that should change is the method of tagging and the result of being tagged. Day 1 Everybody’s It: Students should be scattered throughout the playing area. Every student is a tagger or “it”. On the start signal, each student chases the other students and attempts to tag them. The taggers count the number of people they tag. Play for 2 minutes and then stop the students and have them report how many people they tagged. Start the game again and have them try to break their record. Remember to emphasize safety as the students are chasing, fleeing and tagging. The students’ numbers will not be correct when they report them to you. That is not the emphasis of the game so do not worry about that. The object is to get the students moving and keep them moving. Day 2 Freeze Tag: Start with a large open space for the students to run. Choose one tagger. That one person is “it” and chases all of the other students and attempts to tag them. Once tagged, students become frozen. When everyone is frozen, stop the game and choose a new tagger. The game is over when everyone has had a turn to be the tagger. The tagger will need to be identified in some way. They can carry an object in their hand. Day 3 Tunnel Tag: Start with a large open space for the students to run. Choose one tagger. That one person is “it” and chases all of the other students and attempts to tag them. Once tagged, students become frozen. When they freeze, they must stand with the legs apart and their hands in the air. This signals to the other players that they are frozen. To become unfrozen, another player must crawl through the legs of the frozen player. Students can only crawl from back to front to unfreeze someone. When that task is complete, both players continue the game. While a student is unfreezing another student, neither of them can be tagged. As the students are unfreezing another student, they must be very careful not to touch them. Play for about 2 minutes and then switch taggers. You may need to have 2 taggers to keep the game moving. The tagger will need to be identified in some way. They can carry an object in their hand. Day 4 High Five Tag: Start with a large open space for the students to run. Choose one tagger. That one person is “it” and chases all of the other students and attempts to tag them. Once tagged, students become frozen. When they freeze, they must stand with and their hands in the air. This signals to the other players that they are frozen. To become unfrozen, another player must give a “high five” to the frozen player. When that task is complete, both players continue the game. While a student is unfreezing another student, neither of them can be tagged. As the students are unfreezing another student, they must be very careful to softly slap their hands for the “high five”. Play for about 2 minutes and then switch taggers. You may need to have 2 taggers to keep the game moving. The tagger will need to be identified in some way. They can carry an object in their hand. © Austin Independent School District SportFun A Module of the Sport For All Program Week 26 Pre-Kindergarten P.E. IPG’s Day 5 Band Aid Tag: Start with a large open space for the students to run. Choose one tagger. That one person is “it” and chases all of the other students and attempts to tag them. Once tagged, students must place a hand over the spot that was tagged. When tagged again, they place the other hand on the next spot that was tagged. After a student has been tagged twice, they must freeze. The teacher is the only person who can unfreeze the players. To unfreeze a student, the teacher should ask a question. When the student gives the correct answer; they are healed and can continue playing. Play for about 2 minutes and then switch taggers. You may need to have 2 taggers to keep the game moving. Examples of teacher questions: hold a color flash card and ask the student to name the color, hold an alphabet flash card and ask the student to name the letter, hold a number flash card and ask the student to name the number, etc. This is a good opportunity to tutor your weak students during a game time. Teacher Notes Tagger can hold a soft object to tag others. Use safe and appropriate types of tagging such as tagging softly on the shoulder area. . Change taggers often. Students must maintain body control while chasing and fleeing. Students should practice honesty when tagging. If they say that they have tagged another player, then that person must accept their word. © Austin Independent School District SportFun A Module of the Sport For All Program
