Justification for action
This change is part of an overall change in the MSE-PD emphasis in Information, Technology
and Libraries as well as a change to the requirements for the 902 renewable license for school
librarians. The course previously was LIBMEDIA 441/641. The undergraduate option
(LIBMEDIA 441) was dropped several years ago when this course became part of the 902
renewable license program at the graduate level. The expectations for the course have been
elevated and now require additional indepth investigation of content and application of theory
and research to practice. It will be required near the end of a student’s graduate program which is
reflected in the change in prerequisite. . Students must complete a practicum experience in the
schools and the first part of the developmental portfolio before takng this class. The course’s
competencies will be reflected in the final 902 portfolio milestone.
The course description has been changed to reflect changes in the terminology used in the field
as well as the integration of library technology with the entire school and district’s technology.
