Data management refers to administrative processes and procedures by which institutional data are acquired, validated, accessed, defined and protected. 8 Reasons to develop a Data Management approach • USG requires us to do so: http://www.usg.edu/information_technology_handbook/ • It makes sense and will benefit us directly. 9 Data Management at UGA Current state: • Centrally and departmentally managed applications have good security and access controls and tend to have steward (custodian) engagement. • Consistency needed in the areas of metadata development and sharing, roles and responsibilities, access to information. 10 Data Management at UGA Future state: • Data Management and Governance Committee meets to develop standards collaboratively. • Documentation is developed and shared across UGA. • Begin with core data domains, broaden scope in years ahead. 11 Data Management and Governance Committee • Began meeting in January • Will meet monthly for the first 6 – 9 months. • Make recommendations regarding stewardship, data definition sharing, standard data access philosophy. • Share documentation broadly for UGA community use. 12 Committee Membership • Administrative Units • Legal Affairs • InfoSec • EITS administrative system representatives 13 Milestones Completed to Date • Steward/Trustee identification and communication • Data inventory development • DED work with Strategic Reporting Team • Banner data governance and reporting lessons learned • External report inventory 14 Data Management and Governance Website • Resource to data stewards and consumers • Provides guidance on who to ask for what types of institutional data • Information on institution-wide data governance, including committee membership, agendas and action minutes 15 Questions? 16 Technology Updates Overview Presented By Lynn Wilson February 23, 2016 U N I V E R S I T Y O F G E O R G I A FY16 User Verification • Each year the University of Georgia undergoes an annual financial audit by the State of Georgia Auditors. In preparation for the FY16 audit, we want to make you aware of some preparation activities that will begin shortly related to user access verification. • Verification of all user accounts on the following systems will be conducted: • Mainframe • Banner • Identity Management systems • This verification will involve users verifying the need for the access that they have, and supervisors reviewing and deciding to approve or deny this access for employees under their purview. • This internal review of user account access will continue to occur on an annual basis in order to comply with the expectations of the USG IT Handbook (Section 3). 18 Administrative Systems transition to CAS (Central Authentication Service) • There are 10 Administrative Systems that currently use MyID to login.
