Announcements
 Congratulations to Rowand for winning the McClellan Teacher
of Distinction Award
 Reviewed an option for the copier. Consensus was the option
was not something the department would effectively utilize so
the added expense was unnecessary
PDMSE – Transition conference
 1 student went during all exhibit times and handed out goodies
provided by graduate studies
 Since the conference, the department has had five requests for
information / applications
ABA outreach at St Charles
Cathy Connolly, who is the president of St. Charles education center in
Milwaukee.
http://stcharlesinc.org/ is interested in meeting with us to discuss the
possibility of training 40 of her staff in applied behavior analysis. Ten
of these are teachers with baccalaureate degrees who are interested in
graduate level work. 30 are para professionals who are interested in
ABA content but do not have baccalaureate degrees. We talked about
the possibility of developing a center-based program just for them with
content delivered on site versus all online content. We are looking at a
mid February time to meet.
 3 of her teachers have entered the ABA certificate program
 Looking into options of going to them

Summer Institute - See the latest meeting minutes for the Endless
Possibilities – Mental Health, Education, and Family Supports
Conference. Date: Friday, August 5, 2016. Location: UW Whitewater,
Hyland Hall. Collaborators: WI FACETS – Emilie Braunel, Jan Serak,
Bonnie Vander Meulen; WSPEI – Cheri Sylla; DPI – Daniel Parker
and Christi Gause Bemis; CYSHCN – Tim Markle; UWW & CCBD –

1. Families pay $20.00 includes cost of box lunch
2. Graduate students earn credit via summer institute online modules
and conference attendance
3. Paula Kluth is Keynote. Breakout speakers on topic of mental
health supports for Wisconsin families.
 Collaborating with many organizations spreads out the costs
and bring in more people
 $20 to register and this covers the cost of box lunch
 Focused on local supports for families
 Max is 200
 It will be in Hyland hall as it is the same day as a Plan it Purple
 Could send out on WCEC list serve
 Main population is families
 Let people serving families announce first and then a month
later announce to others
 Options for 2017 Conferences
o Diversity and historical trauma
o ABC for behavior management in the home
 Saved the dates emails to go out on 2/29
 Pre/post/online institute would like some ideas for suggested
reading
Summer and Fall graduate enrollment numbers
 Shannon will try to redirect student from high enrollment
courses to lower enrollment courses
Cross Categorical Certificate Add on graduate certificate in SPECED
for teachers teaching emergency licensure in SPECED under a nonSPECED license. Cohort where the district helps support tuition cost.
Linda Nortier is sharing the schedule and costs of classes with districts
today. See attachment.
 Problem with Edfound 710 not offered this fall
o Many students need as a prerequisite and this sets them
back
o We need to hear from EDFOUND earlier in the
scheduling process
o We heard from Anne and she will offer this class in
Fall 17
 Add on post bac certificate
 Our program is a 36 credit certificate
Graduate program branding brainstorming
a. Shannon met with Nadia Bidwell Project Manager, University
Marketing and Media Relations, Jacqi Bjordahl and Ann Dencker
from Hiebing as well as other graduate faculty members to discuss
how campus can improve the way we brand our Graduate
Shannon
Programs.



Might be best to work through the school districts

 Going through redesign because of changes in the reading
faculty
 2 candidates in next week
Pre-reqs
 326 – Rowand will add prof ed and drop the test requirements
 321, 322, 325, 466 – Rowand will drop the test requirements
Encourage everyone to go to the OFE interviews – they have 4
candidates 3 external and 1 internal
