OUTLINE OF THE PRESENTATION Kobayashi Maru Exercise Thinking on your feet Questions KOBAYASHI MARU What it is? Star Trek Academy test of leadership What it tested… Exercise THINKING ON YOUR FEET BY KENNETH WYDRO Thinking under pressure… Is not an ability that some have and some don’t; it is a mental process habit you practice to master is not focusing on what is happening around or to you but what is happening in you Is being a thermometer or a thermostat; it is up to you Is “thermostatic consciousness” – work from the inside out to control and create calm Is a power of choice – nobody is making you feel the pressure around you: you are choosing to feel it INNER CONTROL It is within yourself… You don’t need formulas or techniques, classes, or degrees to do this You do need to understand your own innate abilities Thinking on your feet is more a matter of expressing what is already there than adding something new You need relaxation, concentration, and preparation HOW TO ESTABLISH INNER CONTROL Relation When you are calm, what happens to your thinking? Relax yourself physically and then mentally We have been taught that environmental conditions are stronger than the power of choice so you must chose to relax Find that center of calm within you that is always there, always present, always available Comes out in a situation of crisis; Expect the unexpected HOW TO ESTABLISH INNER CONTROL Concentration Everyone has the ability to concentrate Negatively done becomes worry, pessimism, complaining Positively done becomes focus, optimism, and ideas It is like a magnifying glass… You don’t make yourself concentrate, you let yourself concentrate… Visualization is one way to concentrate Self fulfilling prophecy Circumstances and events do not cause thoughts, you do HOW TO ESTABLISH INNER CONTROL Preparation Everyone likes to win but few have the will to prepare to win Plan ahead and enjoy yourself in the planning process Must have a willingness to take a chance, to change conditions, to look within problems for solutions Commit to yourself and trust in your abilities INNER CONTROL MODEL
