9.1 Introduction

9.2 Mechanism of Syntactic Change

There are 3 mechanisms of syntactic
change.
1. Reanalysis (surface manifestation not change)

change)

9.2.1 Reanalysis
• Reanalysis underlining syntactic construction

• Is frequent and important
• Look at this borrowing from to English. It

It borrowed then change to:
