eW/FS/WE/001 The water environment WATER CYCLE: Precipitation Precipitation is the transfer of water from the atmosphere back to earth. Rain is the primary mechanism for transporting water from the atmosphere to the surface of the earth. When the temperature and atmospheric pressure are right, small droplets of water in clouds form larger droplets and precipitation occurs. Forms of precipitation include; rain, hail, snow, sleet, and freezing rain.
