B) Write a sentence that gives the meaning of the slope and the vertical intercept of the line.
For every one gram of additional fat, the calorie count increases 11.7 calories. A sandwich with
no fat contains 194 calories.
C) Use the equation found in part A to estimate:
i) the number of calories in a sandwich with 40 grams of fat.
C(40) = 11.7(40) + 194 = 662: A sandwich with 40 grams of fat has 662 calories.
ii) the number of grams of fat in a sandwich with 750 calories.
750 = 11.7f + 194
556 = 11.7t
Next, divide both sides by 11.7.
47.521 = f: There are about 47.5 or 48 calories in a sandwich with 750 calories.
