The Indu Foundation and AIDS International Training Program (AITRP) announce seed money for young
investigators interested in the HIV-AIDS related research.
Purpose: The purpose of this funding opportunity is to support short-term preparatory, pilot or feasibility
studies that will inform larger scale real world use or the conduct of future research
Research Areas. This funding opportunity is focused on the following research areas of interest and is
open to investigators from all areas of life sciences including but not limited to Medicine, Pharmacy,
Dentistry, Physiotherapy, Nursing, Ayurvedic, Homeopathy etc.:
1. Behavioral health – primarily focusing on adolescent health;
2. Epidemiology – pilot studies to address complex questions about the etiology of HIV-AIDS
and has a potential to inform the design and conduct of larger studies;
3. Interventions focusing on treatments – pilot studies focusing on prospective data collection
or retrospective data involving existing combination of agents or newer agents that has a
potential to improve outcomes in HIV-AIDS patients; the research can be translational (lab
or animal based) or clinical (involving patients)
4. Outcomes research – studies focusing on understanding the end results of particular health
care practices and interventions through “Systematic Reviews” and/or meta-analysis. End
results may include effects that people experience and care about, such as change in the
ability to function. In particular, for individuals —where cure is not always possible—end
results include quality of life as well as mortality.
Each application must clearly identify one of these research areas as the primary research area to be
addressed.
Applicants may request up to Rs. 50,000 for a 12-month project.
Accepted applications are evaluated for the following:
Is the proposal relevant to the goals of the INDU-AITRP ?
Is the Principal Investigator a faculty member at the assistant professor level or equivalent in a
private or academic setting?
Does the proposal have scientific merit?
Is there potential that this funding will lead to extramural funding?
Is the budget reasonable for the proposed work?
Can the work be completed in 12 months?
Only full-time faculty or staff at the Assistant Professor level or equivalent are eligible to apply.
Applicants must have no active peer-reviewed funding at the time of submission or award.
