Cohort 6 UDL Projects Fall 2011 – Spring 2012 Lori Alward Math Goal is to provide students more practice time to both engage students and to help them with assessments. She will use Angel for the first time with Math 85 students where she will provide links to electronic practice pages which are instantly corrected. Practice quizzes will be posted online which can be taken as often as needed to succeed. A math related Global Warming Project will also be piloted. David Bahrt Nursing Goal is to provide more access to course information through additional representational strategies such as: 1. Use of a preparation sheet 2. Making PowerPoint’s available 3. Expand active learning through simulation, case studies, and video 4. Tegrity recordings. This will all minimize lecturing time. Goal is to make course information more visual through use of concept mapping of critical course content. Bryce will start the scaffolding of this project by having students identify learning styles as different types of learners approach and build concept maps differently. Students will use Prezi to build the concept maps as it allows 10 people to be online at the same time working on the mapping. Goal is to engage students with choices about how they approach this course which is Biology for Non-Majors. She will offer 2 tracks for her students to pick from – a regular track and an individual track. Both tracks have same lectures, same labs, and same final. Regular track involves 4 tests. Individual track involves 9 mini projects and weekly conferences. Goal is to add additional access to HD 101 course through introducing her new- to- the -college -students to Angel. Kathy will use the grade book and attendance features of Angel so students can track their own grades and attendance which enhances engagement and responsibility. An additional project she will pilot is adding the use of an Audience Response System to enhance a training on Stress and Advising that she regularly offers to her department. Goal is to engage students as active researchers in the study of grammar skills through developing a virtual no cost textbook using a Wiki. This Wiki will be accessible for any students in her classes or other classes who need engaging beginning/intermediate grammar covering areas such as runons, comma splices, and fragments. Bryce Battisti Biology Pamela Bennett Biology Kathy Brown Counseling Mary DeWine Transitional Studies Alice Di Certo Art Goal is to provide her web-enhanced Art Studio Course with more ways of learning course material through using Tegrity to record videos. Her plan is to make a Tegrity video to accompany her 5 big projects assigned during the quarter. The videos will describe the project and showing previous successful work of students. She is also planning on color coding assignment sheets and feedback sheets. Thomas Ferguson Chemistry Goal is to make more time for instructional contact time for students with the instructor through making a Tegrity video of the lectures which will be made available to students through Angel. Students will be required to watch the video prior to coming to class. The class will then be 100% devoted to working with students. Scope and sequence will be done to determine which concepts have been the most difficult in order to determine order of priority. Will integrate video into class grading system. Goal is to provide better access to course content in a hybrid online Statistics class which is not currently user friendly. For each of the 20 chapters in the book, he will embed the text, video, and questions on the same screen and build this over the next quarters. In addition, he will write specific outcomes for each of the chapters above to help meet Quality Matters certification requirements. Goal is to update representation of her arterial blood gasses course materials currently posted on Power Point. She will update the visuals related to look, organization, and graphics. As she reworks the content, she will divide up the time spent between lecture, small group, and up front activities to foster more engagement. Goal is to provide more access to HD 101 course content through using Tegrity and Angel. He already posts grades and now will post class materials on Angel. In addition he will begin to use Tegrity by recording a session on how to compute their GPA and how to do a spending plan which they have struggled with in the past. Goal is to provide more access to Math 85 course content through using Angel and Tegrity. During fall quarter she started posting class notes in Angel. She will continue this practice during winter quarter and assign 2 students a week to scan and post the class notes which will earn them extra grade points. She will also continue to develop Tegrity videos for use in both Math 85 and Math 90. Goal is to provide greater access to Human Services course content through use of Angel. He has met with Jo Munroe and Andy Duckworth on Jan.13th to begin a process of converting some Human Services courses to an on line format.
