Risk Management/Liability A faculty member serving as a student club advisor is in part liable for the activities of the group. It is therefore important to be aware of all planned activities of the group and the potential for liability therein. Faculty carrying out their advisory responsibilities in a non-negligent manner are indemnified by the State of California. The advisor who: is familiar with appropriate laws, policies, and regulations; is aware of the planned activities of the group; ensures that such activities fall within the limits of these laws, policies, and regulations, is operating well within the limits of non-negligent behavior. The advisor who is familiar with appropriate laws, policies and regulations, is aware of the planned activities of the group and ensures that such activities fall within the limits of these policies, is operating well within the limits of non-negligent behavior There are several things that club advisors can do to diminish campus liability: inform the group that a proposed activity is illegal, dangerous or otherwise inappropriate; see that potential participants are informed of possible hazards
