Risk Management/Liability
A faculty member serving as a student club advisor is in part liable for the activities of the group.
It is therefore important to be aware of all planned activities of the group and the potential for
liability therein. Faculty carrying out their advisory responsibilities in a non-negligent manner
are indemnified by the State of California. The advisor who: is familiar with appropriate laws,
policies, and regulations; is aware of the planned activities of the group; ensures that such
activities fall within the limits of these laws, policies, and regulations, is operating well within
the limits of non-negligent behavior.
