City College of San Francisco Communications Committee – Update from – 11/2/04 Meeting ***VERY ROUGH DRAFT *** SFCCD Communications Plan How can the College improve the ways in which it communicates to its internal and external constituents? Goals: o o o o o Effectively inform the community of our work, projects, resources, needs, and course offerings. Be transparent in our work. Generate public knowledge about City College of San Francisco Support Outreach and Recruitment Improve access to electronic media for disabled students and members of the community. Recommendations: (update from 11/2/04 Meeting) A. Review communications plans from other community college districts. B. Approach a Marketing Graduate student from SFSU to evaluate District Communications activities and plans to provide an informed low cost (or free) outside analysis. C. Request assistance from Office of Research/Planning to conduct two or three listening sessions in different district locations during the Spring 2005 semester to review and expand the following list of suggestions and recommendations: 1. Prepare quarterly email newsletter to the community about happenings at CCSF. 2. Utilize CCSF television and radio stations more effectively. 3. Approach KRON and/or COMCAST to partner with EAtv-Ch27 to cover CCSF Football Games 4. Improve budget to enhance local television production featuring City College of San Francisco events. 5. Send EAtv Program Guide to all SF residents with the CCSF Class Schedule 6. More news on Diego Rivera happenings 7. Create a modern, accessible, updated, and integrated college website for use by students, faculty, staff, and community. 8. Prepare a Chancellor’s Report for 70th Anniversary which would include a history of CCSF 9. Performance Gala to celebrate 70th Anniversary 10. Submit insert to celebrate CCSF’s 70th anniversary to SF Examiner and SF Chronicle 11. Expand Concert/Lecture Series 12. Approach SF Chronicle and Examiner for a Higher Education Column (joint effort with PIOs from University of San Francisco, SFSU, and UC Berkeley) 13. Explore webcasting Ch27 (would expand channel’s geographical reach) 14. Produce an outstanding teacher’s lecture series for EAtv-Ch27 15. Develop inter-departmental linkages that highlight and accentuate what each is doing to promote outreach … e.g., a regular Marketing and Public Info column in City Currents, Create a “Guide to Marketing and Promotion Services at CCSF”, etc.) 16. Improve coordination and production of all outreach materials. Encourage all units to keep Marketing and Public Information Office informed. 17. Create media viewing areas at all campuses for students to view EAtv-Ch27 and other cable television channels. 18.
