ASSIGNMENTS
CASE STUDIES: The purpose of the case study is to give the student an overall view of the development and
growth domains of an individual, as discussed in the text. You will observe record and report on real children, using
the case study outline, for studies one and two. Case studies three and four will be done on a movie character
using a question/answer format. The outline to be used for studies one and two is in the syllabus.
OBSERVATION VIDEOS: Four observational videos will be viewed in class and a focused viewing form will be
completed on the content addressed. The videos will be on the four age groups studied. Each observation will be
on a different growth domain. The objective is to provide another form of media to aid in comprehending the
growth and development in the various age stages.
MODULES: There are five modules, which consist of several chapters each. The modules are for the purpose of
reviewing and learning course content. The module answers are found in the text. The last two questions in each
chapter are application questions that are mostly open-ended. The questions are to be typed, followed by the
answers. After each question, put text page number where you found your answer.
TESTS: Tests will be from text material, lectures, videos, handouts, class activities. Tests will include objective
(multiple choice, true-false, matching) .Make-ups are to be taken within one week of test date.
MY VIRTUAL CHILD: Assignments to be announced. A code ($30) or the loose leaf with the text must be
purchased in order to complete assignments.
PLEASE NOTE
ATTENDANCE-PARTICIPATION: Attendance, participation and punctuality in class are very important. Please
contribute orally and be involved in the active learning process. We learn by doing. Sign the attendance sheet as
you come in. Participation is a vital component of this course. Points will be taken off for being absent.
Consistent tardiness, leaving early and non-participation will have point penalties. Points are received for
attendance. If you are in class the entire period, you get the points for the day. If you are not in class,
no matter what the reason, you do not receive the attendance points for that day.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: College level writing, using correct English mechanics (spelling, grammar, punctuation,
capitalization) is required. Correct and appropriate oral communication is to be used.
ASSIGNMENTS: All assignments must be submitted on due date in class. Assignments are NOT to be submitted
through email or fax. This is not a distance education class. If, for some extreme reason, you must fax or email,
points will be taken off. Points will also be taken off for past-due submissions. Assignments will not be accepted
after one week of due date.
NOTICE-NEW POLICY: Students who repeat a course for a third or more times may soon face significant
tuition/fee increases at HCC and other Texas public colleges and universities. Please ask your instructor/counselor
about opportunities for tutoring or other assistance prior to considering course withdrawal or if you are not
receiving passing grades.
