Course Overview:
This course will provide the music students with opportunities to develop fundamental music reading
and performance skills at the organ.
Course Objective:
At the successful completion of this course students will be able to perform compositions to
demonstrate correct pedal work, hand position on the Swell and Great keyboard, finger flexibility,
eye/hand coordination, attention to musical detail, and perform an organ selection for jury. Students
must attend 2 concerts. One must be an organ recital, and the other must be a student, or faculty
recital.
Attendance: Students are expected to attend all lessons. Students will be allowed two unexcused
absence. A student is allowed two tardies, but a third tardy will be counted as an unexcused absence. As
a general rule, make-up lessons are not allowed. The instructor will, however, give consideration to
emergencies on a case-by-case basis. The student is responsible for contacting the instructor should an
absence be necessary, rescheduling make-up lessons when possible, and maintaining an acceptable
level of work until the next lesson.
The last day to drop a class is on November 18, 2010 by 4:30 p.m. The student is responsible for
withdrawing his/her name online from the class rolls.
The grading scale is as follows:
90-100 = A
79-79 = C
80-89 = B
60-60 = D
Academic Advisement:
Academic advisement concerning specific Fine Arts courses and degree plans is available to Central
College students during the academic semester. Students are recommended to meet with a music
faculty advisor in the Fine Arts department. Please sign up in the Fine Arts Office FAC 101
Health Insurance:
The Fine Arts Department at central recommends that HCCS students carry some form of medical
insurance to cover illness and injury both on and off campus
Information regarding low-cost health insurance for students is available in the Fine Arts Office. Under
Texas state statute, HCCS is immune to liability in event of an accident or injury.
