Position Title: Fitness Center Student Assistant
Time Base: Maximum 20 hours/week
Position Reports to: Fitness & Operations Supervisor
Exempt or Non-Exempt: Non Exempt
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Under general supervision, the Fitness Center Student Assistant is responsible for providing direct supervision of the
Fitness Center in addition to providing customer service to all patrons and guests of the Clarke Field House/Student
Union while acting as an ambassador of ‘The Clarke’ working to increase student life, campus climate, and promote
wellness throughout campus. This position may coordinate, implement, and plan projects of a varied and complex nature
and foster working partnerships with several other entities on campus.
Fitness Center Student Assistant Job Description:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
















Marketing and registering customers for personal training, wellness programs, and testing services
Supervising patrons using the Fitness Center
Implementing and enforcing “Fitness Center Policies and Procedures”
Providing information related to Clarke operations and events; promoting participation to members/guests
Opening and closing facility using proper checklist duties
Cleaning and performing basic maintenance of facility equipment and Student Assistant work station
Having a basic understanding of facility equipment
Completing all daily reports including: Hourly Attendance Log, Sectional Cleaning Duties
Reporting all mechanical problems with machines or equipment immediately to Fitness/Wellness Coordinator
Implementing the collaboration of safety, and etiquette by patrons
Having the ability to work with hazardous materials
Placing weights in their proper locations (includes ability to lift 50lbs. using proper ergonomic procedures)
Contributing to Fitness Center Incentive programs as assigned
Perform body fat assessments as scheduled
Completing Student Assistant Committee responsibilities as assigned
Related tasks as assigned
Fitness Center Assistants will have the opportunity to (or will be requested to) work additional hours assisting with
Clarke Field House/University Student Union events.
Responsibilities for these additional hours may include but are not limited to:



Assisting with room set-up/clean-up for campus events
Operating audiovisual equipment
Serving food or beverages for events (Must be willing to be trained in food handlers safety)
Hourly Rate: Starting at $10.00/hour
