Project Title: Mr. Quiet’s Book of Patterns
Project Goal(s): To introduce students to vocabulary that made noise, speech patterns and
patterns related to nature.
Process and Steps:
Students, the previous week, had gone outside and drew patterns they saw in nature. We
found spiral patterns, linear patterns, exploding patterns, etc. I explained that everything
can be broken into patterns. I read the Mr. Noisy’s Book of Patterns (Modern Curriculum
Press) where everything Mr. Noisy does is in a pattern. He talks saying "Hi, Hi, Hello,
Hi, Hi, Hello..." Walking he goes "clomp, crunch, stomp, clomp, crunch, stomp.." The
students brainstormed words Mr. Quiet would hear on a walk in the forest. Then they
illustrated (directed drawing) Mr. Quiet. Then they wrote in patterns all kinds of noise
words in patterns. We bound in a book.
