NURS 535E The catalog description is much too long (max 80 words). Please revise, potentially using the edited versions of the NURS 535C and D catalog descriptions (above) as a model. Revised. The catalog description seems to be describing a CNS, not an APHN. Is this an error? No, this is a CNS specialty. We have Adult/Gerontology, Pediatric and Advanced Public Health. NURS 539A Catalog description (item #8): In the first sentence, “Clinical Nurse Specialist” will be changed to “Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS)”. In the second sentence, a comma will be placed after “research”. Revised “Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS)”; my copy does not have research in second sentence. We will change the answer to item #21 to “Yes” only (both yes and no are currently checked). Changed. Please verify that the S-36 coding (item #10) is consistent with your previous externship course. Yes, it was used. NURS 539C Catalog description (item #8): In the first sentence, “Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner” will be changed to “Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (FMPHNP)”. Changed. Please verify that the S-36 coding (item #10) is consistent with your previous externship course. Yes, it was used. NURS 539D Catalog description (item #8): In the first sentence, “Family Nurse Practitioner” will be changed to “Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP)”. Changed. Please verify that the S-36 coding (item #10) is consistent with your previous externship course. Yes, it was used. NURS 539E Items #5-6: Should APHN be changed to APH CNS in both cases? Yes. Catalog description (item #8): In the first sentence, “Advanced Public Health Clinical Nurse Specialist” will be changed to “Advanced Public Health Clinical Nurse Specialist (APH CNS)”. In the second sentence, “APHN CNS” will be changes to “APH CNS”. Changed sentence 1 & 3. Please verify that the S-36 coding (item #10) is consistent with your previous externship course. Yes, it was used. The syllabus for this version of the externship is very different from the other three. It seems to be arranged more like a lecture, with weekly meetings, readings from a textbook, and discussion topics. It almost reads more like a lecture course than an independent study-type course. Is this course fundamentally different from 539A/C/D, and if so, should it be coded differently? It is an externship course like the others (should be coded the same) but because there is less content about advanced public health nursing in the theory course, the faculty like the students to do more reading on the topic so that they are prepared for clinical. The faculty does post conference every two weeks like the others. It is not a theory course. The DrPH nursing faculty are considering a joint MSN/MPH for this in the future but currently this is a CNS specialty.
