2012-2013 Corporate Interest Survey American Institute of Chemical Engineers In an attemptMichigan to better organize andState structure our AIChE chapter at Michigan University State University, we have constructed this informational survey that will allow your company to connect with our students. Thank you very much for taking the time to read through and fill out the survey. While you may recognize many of the components of the survey already, we feel this survey gives a comprehensive view of our chapter and explains some changes that are being made this year. This survey is split into two parts; Part I describes the events that companies can become involved in while Part II is a survey form in which detailed interests can be expressed. Feel free to skip to Part II and reference Part I for details if you choose. If you have any questions or comments when completing the form, please contact our president or professional committee chair: President Professional Committee Chair Andrew Wisniowiecki Nick Evans wisniowi@msu.edu evansni6@msu.edu 989-430-7494 313-815-0863 General MSU AIChE email: michiganstateaiche@gmail.com Table of Contents Part I ............................................................................................................................................................................... 2 Sponsorship Information....................................................................................................................... 2 General Meetings ...................................................................................................................................... 2 Corporate Tailgates .................................................................................................................................. 3 Plant Trips.................................................................................................................................................... 3 CHEMS Department Symposium Day ............................................................................................... 4 Fall Golf Outing .......................................................................................................................................... 4 National Conference Sponsorship...................................................................................................... 4 Chem-E Car Sponsorship ....................................................................................................................... 5 Part II ........................................................................................................................................................... 6 Survey ........................................................................................................................................................6-9 1 Part I—Survey Information Sponsorship Information: All Michigan State AIChE events are open to all students in the undergraduate and graduate Chemical Engineering Department, so your support helps us to provide beneficial opportunities. Our chapter would continue our Corporate Sponsorship system that simplifies the current system and allows for companies to gain more exposure to chemical engineering students. There are three levels of Corporate Sponsorship this year – Platinum, Gold, and Silver. Our sponsors will be recognized according to their level on our chapter website and a new AIChE shirt that will be given to members this academic year. Sponsorship levels also give companies priority in signing up for event dates during the year. The three levels of sponsorship are shown below, with the benefits of each being described. Any excess funds that do not contribute directly to on-campus events will go toward trips like the AIChE National Student Conference. Platinum ($800+): Name on Michigan State AIChE shirt Option to host a general meeting Option to host a corporate tailgate Gold ($350+): Name on Michigan State AIChE shirt Option to host a general meeting Silver ($150+): Name on Michigan State AIChE Shirt General Meetings Flat Fee: $300 General Meetings are scheduled during a weekday evening and typically last around one hour. Companies are invited to provide a 45-50 minute informational presentation about their company. Food is generally provided to the students at the beginning of the meeting, which this flat fee will contribute to. AIChE handles all promotion for the event, room reservations, and acquisition of food and drink. The host can choose to bring their own computer with a presentation, or simply bring a flash drive or portable storage device. AIChE will ensure that all information for the meeting is passed on to the host company’s point of contact well prior to the meeting AIChE can coordinate a meeting with other student societies desired by the host company. Upon request, AIChE can provide the companies with a list of organizations and the majors represented by them. Due to room reservation requirements this must be done at least one month prior to the meeting. 2 Corporate Tailgates Flat Fee: $500 These tailgates allow companies and students to interact in a more casual setting while strengthening corporate-student relations. The tailgates will offer food, and companies have the option of either purchasing tickets for the game or just attending the tailgate. Tickets are not included in the fee of hosting a tailgate. The tailgate will be held close to the stadium, and details about location will be sent to the company at least two weeks prior to the event. AIChE will handle all promotion for the event, space requests, set up and clean up of the event including the tents, grill, and tables, and acquisition of food and drinks. Because the corporate tailgates are a relatively new event at our chapter, only a few games will be provided to choose from. AIChE can coordinate a tailgate with other societies desired by the host company. Upon request, AIChE can provide the companies with a list of organizations and the majors represented by them. Due to space constraints, tailgates will be limited to two other societies of the company’s choosing. Plant Trips Invoice system that includes food and transportation costs. Plant trips provide a great opportunity for the host company to demonstrate first-hand to a large audience of chemical engineering students what engineers in industry work with on a day to day basis. This event is still on an invoice system because transportation costs are dependent on the distance from MSU to the plants. AIChE will arrange and pay for the plant trip including bus services and lunch, but we do ask that the host company reimburse us after receiving an invoice of expenses. Any interested company should fill in the survey rating all of the timeframes by availability and preference. Slots will be filled on a first come, first serve basis with priority given to company sponsors. It is important that the maximum number of students is filled in, since AIChE will be inviting students to attend. 3 CHEMS Department Symposium Day Sponsored by MSU AIChE Symposium Day is a department specific day at the end of E-Week in February designed to give chemical engineering and material science students a better understanding of what can be done in industry with their degrees. While general meetings are primarily focused on corporate recruiting, Symposium Day is not designed for this intent. Rather, the day is consisted of breakout sessions on topics in chemical engineering during the morning with a key-note speaker in the afternoon. Six total companies are needed for breakout sessions during the day. Generally 100-120 students of various years attend the event, with faculty attending at times as well. Symposium Day is planned along with students majoring in material science in order to relate to the entire department. Food will be provided in a brandnew cafeteria on campus. E-Week sponsors are given preference for sessions, as are those who voluntarily choose to provide funds for Symposium Day. Any questions specific to Symposium Day can be directed to this year’s Symposium Day Committee Chairs. Senior Symposium Day Chair Jordan Martin mart1273@msu.edu 616-540-5367 Junior Symposium Day Chair Molly Zimmermann zimme228@msu.edu 989-488-3091 AIChE Fall Golf Outing Team funding (varies based on course rate) The MSU AIChE Fall Golf Outing occurs each year the day before the Career Gallery. It is hosted at the Forest Akers course on the southwest corner of campus. Students and corporate representatives will be placed in groups together, allowing interaction in a less-formal manner before the recruitment process begins the next day. This year’s event will be on Monday September 1st, with the Career Gallery beginning the next day. The event ends with a fall picnic after the round of golf is over. Funding is provided in the form of team round sponsorship. A representative will host three students to golf nine holes. A company can also opt to sponsor the picnic at the end of the day. If a company is interested in doing so please contact the golf outing coordinator, our Vice President. Vice President Sarah Galea galeasa1@msu.edu 734-233-8289 4 AIChE Student Conference Sponsorships Value Determined by Company MSU’s AIChE chapter takes two trips to student conferences each year – once in the fall to the national conference and to a regional conference each spring. Our students can use sponsorship for the costs of travel, food, lodging, and registration fees. If your company would like to sponsor either of these trips for our chapter, they can be recognized on shirts worn to the conferences by our chapter, or by other means. MSU Chem-E Car Team Sponsorship Value Determined by Company Chem-E car is a national competition among schools to develop a chemically powered vehicle that fits within size specifications and travels to a distance designated by the event judges. Competitions exist initially at the regional student conference, and the winners of this event advance to compete at national competition. Supplies are needed to construct this vehicle, and would be purchased with funding from companies. A poster is presented at the competitions describing the car, and any companies that donate will be recognized on this poster. The car that is built will be covered in the logo(s) of the sponsoring company(ies). 5 Part II—Survey In the following survey, please check all dates that your company is available to host.
