The GE Transfer “Cross-walk” Document
Articulation for the application of the UH System-wide GE transfer agreement to UH
Hilo.
For the New UH Hilo GE program to be implemented in Fall 2011,the "Core"
requirements include the "Basic" and "Area" requirements, but not the "Integrative"
requirements. The “Integrative” requirements are the equivalent of “graduation”
requirements and must be fulfilled by all students, including transfer students, in order to
obtain the baccalaureate degree.
The UH Hilo 2011 GE “Basic” (Composition, Language Arts, Quantitative Reasoning,
and World Cultures) requirements are equivalent to the "Foundation/Basic"
requirements of the UH System transfer agreement.
The UH Hilo 2011 GE “Area” (Humanities, Social Science, and Natural Science
electives) requirements are equivalent to the "Diversification/Area" requirements of the
UH System transfer agreement.
The UH Hilo 2011 GE "Integrative" (Writing Intensive, Hawai'i Pan-Pacific, and Global
Community Citizenship) requirements are the equivalent of graduation requirements
and are not considered part of the "GE Core".
The only part of the MOA that is not consistent with the new GE program is that,
according to the program passed by the UH Hilo faculty in 2008, all certification for GE
would be good for seven years (not five). Since certification for courses approved in the
2008/2009 academic year will expire in 2015/2016, but will not be implemented until
2011, this should not be a problem.
