SPCH 1315/1311 Professor Jenkins– Spring 2015 PechaKucha Presentation Assignment Guidelines Instructions: Students will deliver a PechaKucha style presentation informing the audience of a community to which he or she belongs. One definition of community is the following: “a social, religious, occupational, or other group sharing common characteristics or interests and perceived or perceiving itself as distinct in some respect from the larger society within which it exists.” Thus, your community could be a church group, sports team, neighborhood, academic major, etc. A PechKucha – a Japanese term for the sound of conversation – is a presentation format where a presenter speaks while 20 slides he or she has created advance automatically every 20 seconds. Visit www.pechakucha.org for some examples. Important Points to Consider: The timing of slides is important. The role of practice and rhythm in this presentation style is extremely important. Minimally worded slides (no more than 5 words per slide) encourage the audience to focus on the presenter as opposed to the slides. This type of presentation has real world applications in any situation where a succinct presentation is important. Required Paperwork: ALL SLIDE DECKS NEED TO BE EMAILED TO PROFESSOR STEEL 24-HOURS PRIOR TO YOUR PRESENTATION. At the time of your presentation, you will need to submit an evaluation rubric found on D2L.
