 Idealist.org Focuses on nonprofit and community-building type work. Lists programs as well as
individual internship/volunteer opportunities. Search by location.
 iHipo Find individual internships and job listings. Search by location.
 Intern Abroad Wide variety of internship programs. Search by country and/or internship
discipline.
 Institute of International Education An independent nonprofit founded in 1919 that manages
over 250 programs.
 International Volunteer Programs Association (IVPA) An association of non-governmental
organizations involved in international volunteer work and internships. Most of the programs
charge fees.
 Macalester International Center: Study Abroad Lists trusted programs and gives information
about scholarships.
 PlanetEdu Selected internship and volunteer opportunities.
 StudyAbroad.com Mostly lists internship/volunteer programs. Search by location.
 Transitions Abroad Find internship listings here and volunteer opportunities here. Also has
useful articles on international internships.
 University of MN Learning Abroad Center Programs are occasionally open to non-UM students.
Search by region, term, and type of experience (volunteer, language immersion, internship,
etc.).
INT’L INTERNSHIP PROGRAMS ORGANIZED BY THE U.S. GOVERNMENT
 U.S. Department of State Internships U.S. citizens can work or intern with the U.N. or other
international organizations.
INDEPENDENT INTERNATIONAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAMS
 AIESEC-US Non-profit that aims to promote cultural understanding and international cooperation. Is student-run, and you must become a member to participate in internship and
volunteer programs.
 The American-Scandinavian Foundation (ASF) A cultural and educational link between the U.S.
and Scandinavian countries. Should have a working knowledge of the host country’s language to
intern.
 Association for International Practical Training (AIPT) Nonprofit offering internship programs in
selected countries. Program costs.
 British Universities North American Club (BUNAC) Program places you with an internship site
within the country of your choosing. Program costs; internships may be paid.

CDS International A nonprofit organization that supports intercultural understanding through
international exchange and professional development programs in Argentina, Germany, Russia,
Spain and the United States.
Child Family Health International A leading nongovernmental organization placing health science
students on global health education in ways that are socially responsible and financially just.
Cross Cultural Solutions An established international volunteering program. Students interested
in health, education, or social services are placed in a country based on need. Program costs.
Engineers without Borders USA Non-profit humanities organization established to partner with
developing communities worldwide, involving and training international responsible engineers
and engineering students.
GlobalEdge Reference guide for students, faculty, staff, and administrators to help match
students with international internship opportunities offered by two- and four-year colleges and
universities, governmental agencies, non-profit groups, private organizations, and corporations.
Global Experiences Students are placed in unpaid international internships based on their
preferences. Program costs.
Global Service Corp. Volunteer service internships in several different countries. Popular areas
include health, agriculture, and education.
Go Abroad Their directories contain over 11,000 opportunities abroad updated daily including
study abroad, internships, volunteer opportunities, teach abroad, language schools and much
more.
Humanity in Action International non-profit that aims to install the values of human dignity and
moral responsibility for the protection of the rights of the minority. Offer summer fellowships in
Denmark, France, Germany, The Netherlands, and Poland. There is a $25 application fee but HIA
pays for the travel and accommodation related to its educational programs.
Institute for International Cooperation and Development Private non-profit organization offers
programs in Africa and South America. Programs cost.
Institute of Central American Development Studies Offers Spanish learning programs in Costa
Rica, semester internship and research program in Costa Rica and Nicaragua and summer
internship program in Costa Rica. The summer internship cannot be taken for credit and you
need to pay for it: for 2009, it was approximately $4,200.
InterExchange Working Abroad non-profit organization dedicated to promoting cultural
awareness through a wide range of work & travel, language school, volunteer, professional
training, internship, and au pair programs within the United States and around the world.
International Cooperative Education ICE has placed more than 15,000 students in
work/internship positions throughout Europe, Asia, and South America.
International Health Opportunities A directory of hands-on internships and volunteer
opportunities across the globe. Maintained by the American Medical Students Association.
International Volunteer Programs Association An alliance of nonprofit, non-governmental
organizations that are involved in international volunteer and internship exchanges.
Projects Abroad Community development in foreign countries. Program costs.
Service Civil International Non-profit public charity organization which has official partner
relationship with UNESCO. Provides summer work camps or 3 months and more volunteer
opportunities worldwide. Work camps cost $235, due when applying. You will be placed for the
second choice if first choice is not available.
