PROJECT TITLE:

ZION NATIONAL PARK - Recreation Impact Inventory Time #4 and Pre/Post

Season Test: Pull-Outs, Adjacent Lands, and Shuttle Stops

EFFECTIVE DATES : May 1, 2006 through March 30, 2007

PROJECT ABSTRACT:

This is a longitudinal trend analysis project with 3 periods of prior data collection completed in May, 2000, 2002, and 2004. The current proposal would expand the project to include, as follows: (a) a pre-and post-season comparison of impact incidence (May,

2006 and November, 2006) and (b) the inclusion of quantitative variables to the inventory form, as opposed to only presence/absence variables.

The overall purpose of this study is to determine if implementation of a shuttle transportation system and a primary road closure to private vehicles, has lead to increased recreational impacts (considering: shuttle stops, pull-outs and adjacent land impacts).
