Job Description Title: Program Coordinator (Part-Time) Reports to: Director of Programs Project Exploration Background: Cofounded by paleontologist Paul Sereno and educator Gabrielle Lyon, Project Exploration is a nonprofit science education organization that makes science accessible to the public—especially minority youth and girls—through personalized experiences with scientists and science. Through youth development programs, school services, exhibits, and online initiatives, Project Exploration involves the public in the excitement of scientific discovery. Position Summary: As a member of the program department, the program coordinator is responsible for performing logistical and administrative tasks for all science programs and program staff, with a focus on coordinating and implementing public programs. Responsibilities: Provide planning, administrative, and logistical assistance in all aspects of our educational programming, including coordinating and planning special events, education field trips, and field expeditions. Serve as public programs coordinator, facilitating and attending meetings for various public programs, coordinating and implementing annual programs and events (i.e. Celebra la Ciencia), and responding to public program requests (i.e. career fairs, lab tours, city events, etc.). Coordinate and confirm presenters and vendors and secure materials for Project Exploration education events and field programs, including large one-day events utilizing multiple vendors, multi-week field programs, and professional development workshops for teachers. Represent Project Exploration at events and meetings and communicate information about our programs to both external organizations and to Project Exploration staff. Maintain correspondence and communication with external partners. Provide administrative support including filing, creating event flyers, emailing and faxing schools and students. Order and secure all necessary program supplies. Research science programs as needed. On occasion, facilitate after-school Sisters4Science (S4S) sessions for middle school girls. Qualifications Needed: Bachelor’s degree A minimum of two to three years professional administrative experience including responsibilities such as: coordinating logistics of special events, managing timelines, writing and editing correspondence and reports, coordinating large mailings and mail merging letters, maintaining lists on a database, and conducting research. D:\612949390.doc Must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel Must have strong administrative, writing, communication, and editing skills Must be extremely detail-oriented and able to juggle several tasks simultaneously Must have the ability and desire to work with a team most of the time and independently when necessary Strong desire to work in a growing urban institution Self-motivation and resourcefulness are musts Transportation is required Weekends and occasional evenings required Prior experience in youth development work, urban communities, and/or science education programs a plus Rate: $15/hr (part-time status) Hours: 20-25 hours per week; may include occasional evenings, weekends, and travel.
