The project supports the production of an estimated 1,000 high quality digitized color images of herbarium specimens from PARA. Southern Utah University (SUU) and PARA will collaborate to complete the imaging and post the images on the Southwest Environmental Network (SEINet). PARA also will post the images on the NPS Web Catalog. An SUU Service Learning Event— a Specimen Digital Imaging Workshop—will be held during the course of this project. The workshop will provide SUU students as well as NPS staff instruction on herbarium specimen handling and digitization and an opportunity to process PARA specimens. This project is part of a larger NPS Herbarium Imaging Project (HIP) involving 21 NPS units and cooperating non-NPS herbaria that manage park specimens and participate in a consortium of Southwest herbaria to make herbarium data and images available on SEINet (Southwestern Environmental Information Network) at http://swbiodiversity.org/seinet/index.php. The project will provide global access to specimens in the PARA herbarium, integrate these data and images with data and images from Southern Utah University and 25 other federal, state, local, tribal, foreign governmental and non-governmental herbaria, as well as the 20 other participating parks. 2
