ARTS 1316 WAGNER ‘Moving/Changing Still Life’ Assignment Description: You are to construct a composition of a chosen object or form, giving the illusion you drew a moving object. It may also seem there are three or more objects you were drawing at the same time. The elements that you choose must work well in terms of composition. This is an assignment about observation and imagination. Have fun. Project Instructions: This image can be constructed several ways. One way is to make an image of one form or object at least three times. Each drawing should be placed in the some composition and on the same sheet of paper. The image should give the illusion that the form or object is either changing positions or giving the illusion of three pieces are sharing the same constructed space. Project Goals: Skills to Build On To continue developing observation skills through the use of sighting strategies To continue developing skills in creating the illusion of 3-d forms through effective shading and line techniques To begin understanding the process of selective observation in terms of drawing illusions To begin to develop an understanding of the significance in the relationship between figure and ground To use imagination in developing the value variation needed to control the figure / ground association in the assignment To demonstrate good craftsmanship in the drawing for presentation To selectively utilize selective observation to achieve an illusion of the chosen form(s) To experiment with compositional arrangement of forms Materials: 18x24” sheet of white drawing paper Charcoal or Conte Neutral color Conte is optional
