HCAL Session
Tile/Fiber
V.Korbel (DESY) – many options being explored:
Many new results (DESY 1-3 GeV e beam)
BC408 + Y11 + 3M Super Radiant best option
SC306 (Russian) scint ~70% of BC408, but
much cheaper!
Looking at – fiber heat splicing, #WLS fibers,
machined multitile plates, tile groove depth,
fiber end treatment.
READOUT for Tile Cal.
I.Polak (Prague) – APD Hamamatsu S8550
Gain ~ 100 – 390 (@400V), dark current ~10nA
V.Korbel(DESY) – MAPT(Hamamatsu 8711) –
compare with S8550, SiPMT,…
S8550 – Q.E. ~ 82%, pixel 1.6 x 1.6 mm2,
G~100-500, ~350V
SiPMT(MEPHI) – Q.E. ~ 12-15%, 1. x 1. mm2,
500nm, G ~ 2E6
SiPMT(Obnitsk) – results same as MEPHI.
J.Repond (ANL) – plan to provide section of
DHCAL in 2004. RPC borrowed from Fermilab,
1.5-4.0% crosstalk, comics/large pads.
Ready to build chambers at ANL, postdoc
assigned, 1st RPC meeting 11/1/02 at ANL.
V.Ammosov (IHEP) – will use “standard” design,
thickness 4.5 – 6.5 mm, with 1.2 mm gas gap.
A.White (UTA) – DHCAL/GEM report, questions
raised: costs of foil production, electronics layer.
[GEM – meeting with F.Sauli: foils – 3M Austin,
TX discussion on production, sealed GEM concept
OK, learned several valuable things on etching
process.]
ECAL Session
Y. Arestov (IHEP) – Tungsten plate measurements,
direct meas. to few m. Radiation meas. of X0’s
using radiation (takes ~1 day/plate).
J-C.Brient (LLR) – ECAL mechanics well developed,
ready for TB end of 2003.
J.Fleury (LAL) – front-end for ECAL prototype, 1st
version of PCB/FE 11/15/02.
O.Kvasnicka (Prague) – Si wafers – pre-production
sensors made. 300 wafers.
Test Beam(s)
Much discussion of where/when/how./… throughout
the meeting:
- NO beams at CERN 2005-2006
- Rush to test modules in 2004 – CERN?, DESY (e-),
IHEP (1-20 GeV h, ; 1-5 GeV e-)
- Test ECAL +HCAL(s)
- 2005-6 Fermilab, BNL?? Jose to follow-up with
Gene Fisk (Fermilab).
- J-C.Brient – need one analog, one digital approach
for TB, do not mix technologies.
Probable line-up:
2004 – CALICE Si/W ECAL
- DESY Tile Cal (38 layers)
- ANL RPC (full depth?)
- + ?? (US Tile?)
2005-6 – GEM DHCAL stack
- US Tile Cal
- ANL RPC stack
Paul Dauncey (ICL) - DAQ + trigger for TB ?
Seven months to build trigger board…
Simulation
D.Ward (Cambridge) – MOKKA/G3/Fluka + TDR Geom
results for single particles (2,5,15 GeV e,, ).
Compare with G4 -> G4 has many more low energy hits
– generated by -rays.
Found that G3=G4 when -rays turned on.
N.Watson (Birmingham) – MOKKA/Fluka for
comparison of TB implementation. Want Fluka+G4.
“FLUGG” project (ATLAS) ATL-SOFT-98-039.
FLUGG/Fluka implementation checked – identical
results. Complete study 11/02.
J-C.Brient (LLR) – MOKKA – NEW Cal hits
format, added PDG particle type. Common
Geometry Access. Simple event display. VXD
added (RAL). TPC added + Si Intermediate
tracker + forward tracker.
A.Sokolov(LLR/IHEP) – REPLIC (Reconstruction
Package for LC).
-track finder, photon finder, neutral hadron
finder, lepton i.d.
-e-e+ -> ZH(140) -> H 1000 ev., 500 GeV
W/Si ECAL, RPC HCAL.
Photon recon. -> purity of photon finding 93.5%
