Back Spinning-A dj technique credited to Grandmaster Flash. The DJ stops the record with his or
her hand reverses its direction to replay the portion of the record
Beatbox-a vocal percussion; imitation of rhythm and instuments
Digging the crates-refers to party Djs pursuit of perfect beats on vinyl records in their own
crates or new records
First wave- The old school of Hip-Pop culture is distinguished by two periods. First wave refers
to pre-commercial era
Mixtapes-A compilation of songs originally recorded onto cassette tape and sold on the streets
Needle dropping –The ability to place the needle in the same spot on the record at will by sight
only
Old school-the very first style or original form of hip pop
Punch phrase-A dj technique in which the DJ rhythmically inserts or punches very short
segments of sound
Scratching- Rotating and applying pressure to a record back and forth against the needle to
create a rhythmic pattern
Second wave-refers to the commercial era of hip-pop
