FINAL EL CAMINO COLLEGE Office of the President Minutes of the College Council Meeting of June 5, 2006 Present: Dr. Arce, Dr. Baker, Mr. Brown, Ms. Caldwell, Dr. Dever, Dr. Fallo, Dr. Marsee, Mr. Middleton, Mr. Nordell, Dr. Simon, Ms. Smith, and Ms. Pickens. 1. Policy & Procedure 2510 – Participation in Local Decision Making/Collegial Consultation: Academic Senate will review to see if they have any input on what should be changed/updated. Dr. Baker will work with David Nordell on the policy and procedure as it relates to students and bring back to College Council on July 10th. 2. Policy & Procedure 4225 – Course Repetition: This was taken back to the Education Policy Committee as a result of a question that came out of Academic Senate. The Education Policy Committee said this policy/procedure can go forward as is. The Academic Senate understands that the repeatability issue is an audit issue. The policy will go forward to the Board of Trustees for adoption and the procedure will be given for informational purposes. 3. Policy 4100.1 – Catalog Rights: This has already been approved by the Academic Senate. This policy statement is ready for Board of Trustees approval with one minor change: “spring and fall semesters” will be changed to “fall and spring semesters.” 4. Compton College: We have submitted our response to the request for proposals and it has been reviewed by the Special Trustee and Interim President. There was a Board of Governors teleconference scheduled which has been cancelled. Santa Monica College did approve entering into a partnership with Compton College for the summer session. The Special Trustee has set up a meeting with Dr. Arce and Dr. Marsee on Wednesday, June 7th for initial discussions on our response. An informational forum will be held on Thursday, June 8th at 1:00 p.m. in the Haag Recital Hall. We hope to get a clearer picture on Wednesday on faculty curriculum rights associated with contracts. Other important issues are curriculum develop and Student Learning Outcomes (SLO’s). We are unsure as to how long Compton retains its accreditation or what happens to Compton’s accreditation during this process. 5. Equalization/State Budget: The State Budget Conference committee has been established. Equalization was discussed Friday night. In the last run El Camino College was to receive $1.6 million, now that is for only two years and it will then drop down to $600,000. We are working with the coalition and Department of Finance to resolve this. Summer Schedule: College Council will meet on June 19, 2006, July 10, 2006, and July 17, 2006. Other meeting dates for August will be decided upon at the July 17th meeting. Agenda for the June 19, 2006 Meeting: 1. Minutes of June 5, 2006 2. Board Agenda 3. Team Reports 4. Compton College
