FINAL
EL CAMINO COLLEGE
Office of the President
Minutes of the College Council Meeting of March 26, 2007
Present: Ms. Amezcua, Mr. Brown, Dr. Dever, Dr. Fallo, Mr. Robertson, Dr. Spor, and
Ms. Pickens.
1. Review process of recommendations from other committees – It was suggested to
rephrase this statement to say that this is primarily a communication body and that if
items do come to this body requiring recommendations then we can act on as such. It
is believed that this is primarily a communication body not a recommending body. It
is noted that there are times when the President does ask for a recommendation from
this body. It is also a function of this committee to make sure that all constituent
groups are well informed on important issues. The Academic Senate has the
responsibility to keep students in the loop on issues that affect them. Student
participation is important on the Academic Senate. It should be determined what type
of information goes out and to who it goes to.
2. District Vision Statement, Mission Statement, Statement of Philosophy, Statement of
Values, Guiding Principles & Strategic Goals for 2004-2007 definitions were
provided by Arvid Spor.
3. Committees Listed on Portal – It was decided to delete the following committees:
Career Center Advisory, International Education Study Abroad Advisory, and the
Communications Task Force. It was noted that the ASO Finance Committee should
only post their information internally. Susan Pickens will ask Dal Toruno to update
the Parking & Traffic Advisory committee information. Each Vice President will be
expected to give a status report on all committees that are under their areas and ensure
that all minutes are posted and up to date. Dr. Arce and Dr. Marsee are to provide
information as to why certain areas are not having council meetings. Dr. Marsee is to
provide information as to whether or not Division Council – Facilities Planning and
Services – Night and Day shifts are having meetings. Gary Robertson will find out if
when the last time the Campus Police Services – Division Council was updated.
Arvid Spor will ask Dr. Nishime to report on the status of Division Council meetings
for Community Advancement, Counseling Division and Enrollment Services. Don
Brown will check on the status of the Division Council for Instructional Services. Dr.
Marsee is to check with Rocky Bonura on the status of the Division Council for
Purchasing & Business Services and also for the Safety & Health committee. Dr.
Arce will determine if the Division Curriculum for Health Sciences & Athletics
minutes are available - and what the status is for this listing. Dr. Marsee will be asked
to ensure that the ECC Technology Committee is updated. Dr. Arce will report on
why the College Load Review Committee and District Wide Conference Committee
minutes are not available on the portal – these should be available. Dr. Arce is to
determine if Sabbatical Leave Committee reports could be made available on the
