Safety Report Topic “DON’T BE SCARED – BE PREPARED!”
It is critical to remember the significance of earthquake preparedness when we live in the
Southern California area. If you are prepared at work and at home, it makes it that much easier to
handle, should it happen.
At ECC, dial 9 before dialing 911 or hit the emergency button if you have one on your touch-tone
phone.

Committee Reports
The last meeting of the Fiscal Services Area Council was held May 25. The tentative budget was
presented to the Board of Trustees as an information item and will be on the Board agenda for
approval in June.
The State budget subcommittees are still debating on the $26 versus $22 enrollment fee, and a
final budget is expected to be on time.
The Humanities building is the next big project. Construction project bids are coming in at
higher costs than originally expected, as much as 15-20%. This is caused by the higher costs of
materials, especially steel which is being shipped to China.
Major revisions in the master plan are expected in 2005.
The Health Services Committee is still looking at plans, including Aetna, Blue Cross, HealthNet
and SISC. CalPERS is our current provider.

Pam
One handout was an article from a local newspaper listing telephone numbers of Police
Departments in the South Bay area. Consider programming the applicable number(s) into your
cell phone.
The second handout was on the Infonet scrolling news regarding electronic greeting cards.
There was also a reminder on the Infonet to personally go online to update virus protection on
each office computer.
Regarding Janet Clarke’s retirement and how the situation will be handled, there is still a hiring
freeze. Some positions are being posted for filling but this is not one of them. Rocky Bonura
will serve in Janet’s capacity. There will be some impact on Fiscal Services, the idea is that
Fiscal Services will be working more closely with Purchasing and A/P areas. There will be no
work changes, just closer.
Effective July 1, Rocky will relocate in Janet’s office.
