Supplemental Instruction (SI) Coach Job Description
Qualifications:

Enjoy interacting with students.

Possess high knowledge of the course content.

Be able to communicate effectively and clearly.

Have a 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher.

Able to commit to 8-10 hours per week for the entire semester.
Responsibilities:

You will be assigned to a specific course section. You will work with those students and
that instructor throughout the 16 week semester.

Attend all class lectures. You will know what the instructor expects from the students while
building student rapport.

Facilitate 2 (90 minute) SI sessions per week. SI sessions are interactive group sessions that
focus on course content, learning skills, and life skills.

Promote SI in the classroom. Students voluntarily attend SI sessions. Continuous
promotion helps gain their interest to attend.

Help students refine learning skills such as note taking and organizing, test preparation, steps
for problem solving, memory skills, self-testing, test taking, etc.

Meet with instructor weekly. Develop working partnership with instructor.

Maintain attendance records and submit required paperwork.

Remain flexible in adjusting schedules for SI classes and times.

Attend required SI training and staff meetings.

Further develop your own study skills to the most efficient level. Many SI coaches cut
their own study time and still earn high grades.

Discover ways to teach others how to learn. This is an excellent experience for future
teachers, managers, C.E.O.s, entrepreneurs, and parents.

Refine leadership, speaking, and teaching skills. Learn to motivate others. Motivational
employees are highly sought after in the workforce.

Develop a more positive attitude, build confidence, and become a better learner.

