CATALOG COURSE DESCRIPTION
LEARNING OUTCOMES
Study of human behavior with emphasis on emotional and mental abnormalities and modes of treat- ment incorporating the nursing process.
The student will describe the char- acteristics of positive mental health identify the coping mechanisms utilized by individuals to assist in alleviating stress and anxiety and demonstrate the use of therapeutic communication skills.

Students will be able to demonstrate effective listening skills and over- come faulty listening behaviors.

The student shall
1. Identify health status and health needs of clients based on interpre- tation of health-related data obtain- ed from the assessment and colloboration with the client, their families and members of the health care team as referenced to providers of care competency #1 and SCAN competency #28.
2. Implement plan of care within legal and ethical parameters in colloboration with the client and health care team as referenced to provider of care competency #1 and
SCAN competency #28.
The student shall:

Identify and follow lines of accountability within structured health care settings while providing care to selected clients with mental health disorders as referenced to coordinator of care competency #4 and SCAN competency #28.
The student shall:

Demonstrate behaviors that promote the development and practice of vocational nursing that reflect safe clinical practice and provision of quality health care to select clients with mental disorders as referenced to members of a profession competency #2 and 3 and
SCAN competency #28.

Choice, 50 questions. One hour for each exam is allowed.
2.A Comprehensive final, multiple choice, 100 questions. Two hours will be provided for the exam.
3.The grade for this course is comprised of theory component only.
4.The course grade will delivered as follows:

OF 75% MUST BE ACHIEVED
IN ALL VOCATIONAL

STUDENT TO PASS. THERE ARE
NO EXCEPTIONS. ANY COURSE
GRADE BELOW 75% MUST BE
REPEATED FOR NURSING
CREDIT. FINAL GRADES AND
UNIT EXAMS GRADES WILL
NOT BE ROUDNED.
ALL EXAMS ARE
ADMINISTERED ON LINE.
THERE WILL BE NO MAKE
UP EXAMS FOR THE
STUDENTS WHO ARE ABSENT
ON THE SCHEDULED EXAM
DAY. IF A STUDENT IS UNABLE
TO TAKE THE SCHEDULED
EXAM A GRADE OF 50% WILL
BE GIVEN.THERE WILL BE NO
EXCEPTIONS.
Students must log off the computer at the end of an exam. Failure to do so will not record a grade in the computer lab system and result in a grade of zero (0).
Exam Reviews will be announced.
Students must record their grades on the sheet provided in the syllabus. No exam papers or grade sheets will be shown after the review.

Guidelines for Classroom
Pagers and cell phones that emit sounds are not permitted in the classroom. Any use of the devices described will be grounds for dismissal from the classroom for the remainder of the class session.
Attendance
Students will be responsible for signing the roll each class day.
Failure to sign the roll will result in an absence.
Consistent punctual attendance is essential. Students who are absent more than 12.5% of the total hours of instruction (more than
4 hours) from this course are administratively withdrawn.
