Chair’s Report: The Senate Executive Committee met. The revisions to the Music minor, which were approved by UAC last year, will go to the Senate next week. UPPC has expressed an interest in looking at the resource implications of any proposed General Education changes that may come out of UAC this year. The UAC Chair reported to the UPPC Chair that the UAC was continuing discussion on changes to the general education proposal and would report out once those changes were in Bill form. A booklet regarding the Strategic Plan was distributed and discussed. There will be working groups formed some of which will be considering undergraduate issues. These groups will have no decision making authority, but will offer suggestions to the Provost and Senate Councils. There are liaisons from UAC on the strategic planning groups. Committee Reports: Committee on Curriculum and Honors: Has approximately 8 carry-over items from the 2010-11 academic year. Committee on General Education: No report. Committee on Interdisciplinary Studies: No report. Committee on Academic Standing (sub-committee of CAAS): First meeting is scheduled for 10/6. Old Business: Restricted admission to majors/minors. The policy regarding the requirements for restricting admission to a major requires that UAC review the criteria every five years. A document identifying majors with admission restrictions was distributed. Some discussion ensued, and a number of implications were noted. A vote was taken and passed to record the concerns of the Council and return to the subject at the next meeting. New Business: Review of internship criteria. This issue concerns matters such as: Who can sponsor an internship? What if any GPA requirements should remain in place for a student to be eligible to register for an internship? Should internships remain limited to students with Junior or Senior status? Should current restrictions on the locations that internships may be completed remain in place? After some discussion in which there was support for and against changing the current internship requirements, it was agreed that more data regarding internships and the students who complete them was needed. A vote was taken and passed to move this issue to the Committee on Interdisciplinary Studies for further review and recommendations. Meeting adjourned at 2:30pm
