2. Approval Minutes
The March 28, 2016 Minutes were unanimously approved by the Committee.
3. Report from Interim Dean of the Libraries, Rebecca Mugridge
Faculty searches. The Reference Librarian search committee has completed
its review of candidates and we have scheduled three interviews this week.
The Interactive Media Center position has been posted with a deadline of
April 29. The Information Literacy Librarian position has also been posted,
with a deadline for applications of May 16. The next two positions to be
posted will be the Libraries’ Web Developer and Designer position, and the
Serials Coordinator.
Conversations in Standish. Our last conversation took place on April 6: Rick
Fogarty, History Department, spoke on “What Can 1916 Tell Us About 2016?
Europe, Islam, and the Middle East” to a standing room only audience of
about 110. We plan to host 2-3 of these conversations every semester; they
have all been highly successful at bringing faculty, students, and the
community together.
Compact planning proposals. The Libraries put forward four compact
planning proposals this year. They included:

Funding to replace study carrels in the University Library (this was previously
identified as student seating, but we decided to purchase new chairs with
salary savings available this year). Medium priority
New Information Literacy Classroom in the Science Library. Medium priority
Library Support for Engineering Programs. High priority.
Library Support for the College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland
Security, and Cyber Security. High priority.
Marcia Brown gift and event. The Libraries hosted an event on April 8 to
celebrate the life of Marcia Brown, an award-winning children’s book author
and illustrator, best known for Stone Soup. At the event, Brian Keough, Head,
Special Collections and Archives, announced that Marcia Brown also left her
book royalties to the University Libraries.
Facilities. I’ve heard from Riki Brown from the Office of Campus Planning
(OCP) who let us know that they’re in the process of reviewing our alternative
suggestions for the use of library space and getting cost estimates on those
suggestions. No other action has taken place since our last meeting on
February 5. We’ve been contacted by a member of our Student Advisory
Board who is also involved in the Graduate Student Association who is
working with other graduate students to pass a resolution. At her request I
shared additional information about the alternative suggestions that we made
to OCP.
4. Report from CIO – Simeon Ananou
Project Portfolio Manager. Portfolio Management is a set of processes
designed to manage the organization's resources (staff time and money)
more effectively while driving towards continually evolving or changing
strategic goals. It allows us to understand the services of the University and
what these services entail. Brian Heaton, formerly a manager in Client
Support Services, is the new project portfolio manager.
Restructuring in ITS. The Message and Collaboration Team in Client
Support Services and the Telecommunications team in Enterprise
Infrastructure Services were recently brought together. This synergy was
folded into one new communication technical team for the University.
CNI Spring Membership Meeting. Simeon attended the CNI meeting in
April looking at problems in libraries and ITS. The theme was computing
research, software and intellectual property.
Data Plan. We are thinking about how we are going to share and protect
more than ever before. A Research data management plan is being looked
into by the libraries and the securing of institutional repositories.

MyUAlbany. Discussions have taken place regarding a major upgrade to
MyUAlbany. In process of reviewing the flexibility of improving MyUAlbany
and whether it should be upgraded or scaled back, including financial
investment.
Staff Pulse-Taking Sessions. Simeon held 2–hour sessions with ITS staff
who were not directors or managers. These sessions were to gauge the
level of maturity within ITS. The three topics for discussion were
communication, professional development, work environment or a topic of
their choice.
IT Survey. ITS is in the progress of developing a survey to gauge IT services
we provide and quality and effectiveness of these services. This survey is
anticipated to go out to all faculty and staff in the fall of 2016.
5. Adjournment
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. The LISC
committee will reconvene in fall 2016.
