We plan to host 2-3 of these conversations every semester; they have all been highly successful at bringing faculty, students, and the community together. Compact planning proposals. The Libraries put forward four compact planning proposals this year. They included: LISC Meeting May 2, 2016 Funding to replace study carrels in the University Library (this was previously identified as student seating, but we decided to purchase new chairs with salary savings available this year). Library Support for the College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security, and Cyber Security. High priority. Marcia Brown gift and event. The Libraries hosted an event on April 8 to celebrate the life of Marcia Brown, an award-winning children’s book author and illustrator, best known for Stone Soup. I’ve heard from Riki Brown from the Office of Campus Planning (OCP) who let us know that they’re in the process of reviewing our alternative suggestions for the use of library space and getting cost estimates on those suggestions. No other action has taken place since our last meeting on February 5. We’ve been contacted by a member of our Student Advisory Board who is also involved in the Graduate Student Association who is working with other graduate students to pass a resolution. At her request I shared additional information about the alternative suggestions that we made to OCP. 4. Report from CIO – Simeon Ananou Project Portfolio Manager. Portfolio Management is a set of processes designed to manage the organization's resources (staff time and money) more effectively while driving towards continually evolving or changing strategic goals. It allows us to understand the services of the University and what these services entail. Brian Heaton, formerly a manager in Client Support Services, is the new project portfolio manager. Restructuring in ITS. The Message and Collaboration Team in Client Support Services and the Telecommunications team in Enterprise Infrastructure Services were recently brought together. This synergy was folded into one new communication technical team for the University. CNI Spring Membership Meeting. Simeon attended the CNI meeting in April looking at problems in libraries and ITS. The theme was computing research, software and intellectual property. Data Plan. We are thinking about how we are going to share and protect more than ever before. A Research data management plan is being looked into by the libraries and the securing of institutional repositories. 2 LISC Meeting May 2, 2016 MyUAlbany.
