Lorena Garcia, Kenya Salcedo and Elena Savina will participate in Student Welcome Day on August 19th.
L. Garcia and K. Salcedo administered the TOEFL test on July 29th.
The math tutors are back in the Assessment/Testing Center. There are two new tutors available from 9am –
12pm and 1pm to 4pm most days. They are tutoring all math levels.
Follow up to the “Just In Time” Math Tutoring meeting held on June 15th showed the stats were still positive
and it was decided to keep the math tutoring going indefinitely into the future.
Math Academy testing concluded and all went well. Harnish Patel helped with all 3 sessions.
International Student testing will be held on Aug 10th. Outreach will provide 2 proctors to help administer
the test.

PS-MAPP
 Continuing to work with Institutional Research to redesign the evaluation forms. The Pre- assessment forms
were completed and approval was received by the funder, The Community College Foundation (TCCF) to go
forward and use them. The benefit of converting the assessment is that we can now capture and measure
the data with greater efficiency and have the data in a format that is compatible with El Camino’s standards.
Student Advocacy and Support
 During the month of July, our office assisted 4 students with completing the enrollment and registration
process.
 We are working in partnership with The Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) Torrance Office
Transitional Coordinator. Collectively we have been establishing contact with identified students to assist
them in completing the enrollment and registration process for the fall semester.
 Enrollment clinics are scheduled to assist prospective students. The remaining dates are:
o August 4 & 18, 2015.
 The prospective students who attend will be assisted with completing the four core steps of enrollment and
information about priority registration.
 We continue to work with the John Burton Foundation around Priority Registration. The purpose of this
project is to develop strategies to better inform and support foster youth to access priority registration.
Adult Education Liaising
 We continue to respond to the students who contact us. Their needs vary. The students are referred by the
Adult Schools and they are supported wherever they are in their process to successfully enter into El Camino
College.
Financial Aid




As of July 30, 2015, the Financial Aid Office submitted total of 28,858 GPA verification records to California
Student Aid Commission for the September 2, 2015 Cal Grant deadline.
Financial Aid advisors have reviewed and packaged 12,332 files for 2015-2016 as of August 7, 2015.
Kristina Martinez, Assistant Director of Financial Aid, will be participating in a Financial Literacy program
being hosted by the Chancellor’s Office beginning in fall 2015. According to the Chancellor’s Office, the new
campaign aims to “increase financial literacy across the entire California Community College System and
within the communities in which schools are located.” The goals of the Financial Literacy program are to: (1)
increase financial capability for all students enrolled in the system; (2) reduce student loan default rates; (3)
increase student success and program completion; and (4) create a culture of financial competence on each
campus. Once Kristina completes the training, she will serve as the on-campus trainer to train Financial Aid
Office personnel and others within Student Services to better educate and assist students with financial
literacy matters.
The Financial Aid Office is preparing for the first Pell Grant disbursement for the Fall Semester 2015 which is
scheduled for Friday, August 28, 2015. To assist with this effort, the Financial Aid Office will be hosting
Barbara Smith, Relationship Manager with Higher One, to help educate students on the ECC Debit Card and
the three disbursement options available. It is anticipated that El Camino College will disburse approximately
$4,000,000 in Pell Grant funds during the first disbursement.

Employment records dating back to the 2008-2009 Academic Year through the 2013-2014 Academic Year to
the U.S. Department of Education by July 31, 2015. The data for the 2014-2015 Academic Year is due on
October 1, 2015.
Outreach and School Relations




There are 5,561 students (data base was purged of students enrolled this past year) currently in our
Prospective Student Database. Contact Robin Dreizler if your program wishes to use this database for
program recruitment.
Finishing touches on New Student Welcome Day are underway. NSWD is scheduled on Wednesday, August
19, 2015. Check in begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Marsee Auditorium.
Outreach has provided a 1-Stop of SSSP Core Services every day since July 27th. The intent is to allow
students the opportunity to complete the orientation, placement tests (with an opportunity to meet with a
math tutor prior), create an Ed Plan with a counselor and then register for classes. To date, Outreach has
completed 85 Orientations, 151 Educational Plans and assisted 98 students with registration.
9 Outreach Counselors have been identified, hired, and have begun training to assist with Outreach at the
high schools. Outreach Counselors main assignments at our local high schools will begin in late September.
