Behavioral & Social Sciences: There will be several assessments this semester and maybe one in
the summer. Many SLOs are pending.
Business: Computer Information Sciences has a SLO for all courses and are of very high quality.
Fine Arts: Discussed with Leslie Back and Joanna Nachef on how to assess chorale music
classes.
Health Sciences & Athletics: Discussed how to assess the athletics department.
Humanities: Assessed English 1A and English A last semester. Last fall, there were many
assessments that were collected and need to be read. An SLO division meeting will be scheduled
to decide what will take place next year.
Industry & Technology: Division has 18 programs and many courses to review.
Math: Productive meeting was held.
Natural Sciences: Productive meeting was held.
III. Goals & Objectives for Year
-- Review the assessment principle statement and submit the reading to Academic Senate for
approval.
-- Set up a task force to explore how to create SLOs for general education.
-- One-on-one assistance to faculty to develop successful SLO and assessment. Need more
trainers.
-- Evaluate CEC progress on blended standards and accreditation standards, gather information
for FCMAT, and follow-up with faculty to move along SLOs.
IV. Finalize Assessment Principles Statement
Any additional comments on principles should be forwarded to L. Kjeseth. He will incorporate
it in the statement.
VI. Assessment of Student Learning Week
The Assessment of Student Learning week will be held October 23-26. The two components
will include: (1) SLO assessment mini conference on Friday; and (2) SLO Assessment Fairs.
1
Attendees of the Strengthening Student Success conference will be encouraged to be presenters
at the workshop fair (in pairs if desired). Faculty panels, series of tables set up (What is an SLO?
How do we assess SLOs? What kind of data is acceptable? What can we use this information
for?), and a clinic table with coordinators (L.Gallucci, L. Kjeseth and J. Simon) There will be
three assessment fairs at ECC and one fair at CEC. The event will be promoted at department
meetings and focused on full-time faculty (flex credit available). ALC members were
encouraged to assist during the week.
VII. Strengthening Student Success Conference Planning
Fourteen people from ECC will attend the Strengthening Student Success Conference on October
3-5. Staff Development will fund the conference. It is desired that for those attending to become
trainers for other faculty on campus. At the next ALC meeting, attendees will review the various
sessions offered and determine who will attend to create a balanced amount of coverage at the
conference.
VIII. Other
Future Meetings: It was suggested that the committee meet on alternate weeks of the College
Curriculum meetings so more representatives can attend the ALC meeting. Meetings will be
changed during the 2008 spring semester to accommodate this change.
Volunteers: 3-4 volunteers are needed to focus on how to incorporate general education into
core competencies. Those who volunteered include: M. Kline, R. Lewis and D. Thompson.
Volunteers were requested to share feedback in November.
