Course Description: Survey of modern business computer software and applications. Opportunities to create programs and to use existing application software to solve various management information technology oriented problems. Emphasizes the end-user’s perspective, and interactions with management information technology. Course Objectives: Upon completion of this course, students should: • understand basic concepts of working with a computer and other related devices • understand the fundamentals of Excel • gain an experience on organizing and manipulating data using Excel Major Field Test The Major Field Test (MFT) is required for all students pursuing the Bachelor of Business Administration degree and will be administered in the MGMT 4388 course, “Administrative Policy and Strategy.” To prepare for this test, business majors are advised to retain their class notes, textbooks, and other relevant materials from this class and the other business core courses. Students will enroll in BUSI 0088 “MFT Review” (concurrently with MGMT 4388) during their final semester; this online course should fine-tune their readiness for the MFT by encouraging them to complete the online MFT review materials and required quizzes available on the course Blackboard learning modules. Project: There are Excel projects due through the semester. Assignments must be submitted by the deadline. Late work is NOT accepted. However, the two lowest project grades will be dropped. Exams: On the day of the exams (as shown in the tentative exam schedule), exams will be available starting at 7:10 PM and must be submitted through Blackboard by 8:30 PM. Exceptions on this specified time to take the exam may be made on a case-by-case basis if you contact the instructor in advance. Performance Evaluation and Grading: Exam #1 20% Exam #2 20% Exam #3 20% Projects 40% TOTAL 100% *** Important Verification Policy: Near the end of the semester, you will need to sign up for a date/time where I will verify your work. At the date/time you sign up for, you will need to connect via Skype (you’ll need a webcam for this) and show me your University ID card through Skype. I will then give you several Excel questions which you answered correctly on the projects or exams previously submitted – if you are not able to answer several of these questions correctly (which you had previously submitted as your work), I will determine that you are not the person submitting the work for the class and you will receive an F for the semester. This should be easy for everyone who has completely done all class work on their own and this verification should take only 5 - 10 minutes of your time. A letter grade will be determined based on the total points earned, as follows: A: 90.0% or above; B: 80.0-89.9%; C: 70.0-79.9%; D: 60.0-69.9%; F: below 60.0%. Disability Services The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a federal anti-discrimination statute that provides comprehensive civil rights protection for persons with disabilities. Among other things, this legislation requires that all students with disabilities be guaranteed a learning environment that provides for reasonable accommodation of their disabilities. If you believe you have a disability requiring an accommodation, please call or visit Disability Services at (361) 825-5816 in Corpus Christi Hall, Room 116. If you are a returning veteran and are experiencing cognitive and/or physical access issues in the classroom or on campus, please contact the Disability Services office for assistance at (361) 825-5816. Academic Honesty: University students are expected to conduct themselves in accordance with the highest standards of academic honesty. Academic misconduct for which a student is subject to penalty includes all forms of cheating, such as illicit possession of examinations or examination materials, forgery, or plagiarism. If I determine that any assignment was not completed solely by the student whose name appears on the assignment, the student will receive a zero (0) for the assignment and possibly an "F" for the class.
