course
• There are 2 pages of “goals” and “Student
Learning Outcomes” for this course. If you
want to see what we’ll be doing, read
these pages (4 & 5).
This class vs. other astronomy
classes
• Astro 20 = learning about how planets and
other solar system objects work & look.
• Astro 25 = learning about how stars, black
holes, Big Bang, and galaxies work & look
• Astro 12 = learning sky names (stars,
constellations, planets), use a telescope
most nights. Do what ancients did.
• Astro 13 = Build your own telescope for
$250-300, better than most $1500 store
bought models.
Grades, Homework, Email
submissions, Late Homework
• Read the syllabus
• If you plan to submit email homework,
PLEASE READ THE PARAGRAPH IN
THE SYLLABUS!!!
• I don’t accept late homework.
• You get 2 NQA coupons for missed
homework, or you can use them to delay
the most important (optional) homework:
test rewrites. (You get to re-do tests for
half credit after getting them back.)
Tests
• Buy Scantron form 882-E for each
• Bring handwritten 3x5 notecard
• Multiple choice, true/false, matching
(mostly mult. Choice)
• Rewrites available for first 5 tests. Not for
6th test on the last day. Most questions
eligible for half credit after test. More later.
• Drop lowest test
• If you know you will miss a test IN
ADVANCE, we can try to reschedule test.
Otherwise, drop the zero.
Student Expectations
• Read this page, too.
• This page includes deadlines
• If you are thinking of dropping the course,
pay attention to the deadlines AND please
come see me. I may be able to help.
