Purpose: Add two or more blocks to match a specific number
Grade Level: Second Grade
2. (4) Number and operations. The student applies mathematical process standards to develop and use strategies and methods for whole number computations in order to solve addition and subtraction problems with efficiency and accuracy. The student is expected to:
1. (A) recall basic facts to add and subtract within 20 with automaticity;
Length of time necessary for game or activity: Each level takes about three minutes
Number of Participants: Individual players
Source for Game: http://www.additionblocksgame.com/
Procedure:
1.
First click on "How to Play" for directions. You can easily differentiate the game for students by instructing them to click "Options" and then select a specific speed and level of difficulty. I recommend the following: 2nd grade Speed: Slow; Difficulty: Easy
2.
The object of the game is to destroy the target sum block falling on the right side on the screen.
3.
Use the digit blocks to add up to match the target sum. Digit blocks must be connected or adjacent to form the sum.
4.
If your answer is correct, the target sum block will disappear. If you can’t get the answer in time, the target sum block will not disappear and more on the bottom will gather until you fail.
5.
Points are scored for the value of the target sum and the number of blocks.
