Division Council Meeting Minutes
May 15, 2007
Welcome
Ron welcomed everyone to the last division council of the semester.
Present at the meeting was Tom Jackson, who is expected to return as Associate Dean for
I&T, on July 1st, 2007.
Announcements
Chief Mike D’Amico’s passed away. Ron attended the memorial service which was very
honorable and uplifting.
Harry Stockwell has been on medical leave since last December and will be returning
back to work next Monday.
Walter Kahan had quadruple bypass surgery and is doing very well. He had retired a
year ago, but returned as a full-time temporary this spring semester to take over Steve
Cocca’s classes while he is serving as Interim Associate Dean for Spring 07.
PROGRAM REVIEW
Group 1 (Machine Tool, Construction, Architecture, and Air Conditioning) has finished
with their program review. Group 2 (CADD, ATEC, AJ, AND WELD) finished and is
ready to be viewed. Group 3 is due at the end of the year and all the instructors attended
the meeting with Barbara Perez.
Student Learning Outcomes
Ray Lewis conducted 2 SLO brown bag meetings. The first meeting was attended by
once instructor. The second meeting was well attended. Two additional SLO brown bag
meetings will be scheduled for the upcoming week. Ray will be the SLO coordinator and
will bring the division into compliance. He said the SLO forms are available on the web.
The assessment feature is very important. Tim, Frank, Steve, and Ed can bring their
SLO’s to the meeting and Ray will look review them. Tim attended the first SLO
meeting and found it very helpful.
VTEA
The VTEA proposals are due tomorrow by 4:30 p.m.
CAREER EXPO
Victoria Martinez thanked the faculty that participated in the Major’s Fair. She
reminded faculty that the Career Expo will be next week, April 26th from 9:00 a.m. to
2:00 p.m. and needs commitments from the departments. Michael Newton will help with
bringing the displays. CADD and CTEC will need electrical. Machine Tool will have 3
robots there. Fire Tech will set up the night before and have a fire engine. Cosmetology
will do massages, hair, etc. ACR will provide the snow cone machine.

Tim asked if there was a list of vendors that will be present. Victoria will provide the list
to the faculty. So far there are 50 employers attending.
High School senior day will be on Friday, May 18th from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Students
will be bussed in. They will be visiting the different departments. Cosmetology will be
in Tech 152, Fashion in Tech 212, Machine Tool in MCS 11, Architecture in Tech 253
and Welding will be in the shop.
Space Science is this Saturday, April 21st from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. It will be held in
the Natural Science quad area. They will have robots from Citihonors, Southbay, and
Hawthorne.
Steve said there will be a Fire Tech graduation on Friday, April 20th from 10:00 – 12:00
p.m. A female finished in the top half of her class.
Other
Patricia Senio, student representative, reminded everyone about Project Africa Global.
Clothes can be donated and dropped off at the Credit Union. The clothing drive is for the
people of Swaziland. The project is being sponsored by ASO and HTP. Please bring in
your clothes during the next two weeks.
Valencia Rayford would like to visit faculty classes and talk to the students about the new
certificates. She wants to be more visible and available for faculty and students.
