Department of Judaic Humanities 355 Albany, New York 12222 Studies 518/442-4130 Fax: 518/442-4136 UNIVERSITY AT ALBANY STATE UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORK MEMORANDUM February 28, 2005 To: Academic Program Committee, College of Arts and Sciences From: Mark A. Raider Chair, Department of Judaic Studies Director, Center for Jewish Studies Re: 5 Year Early Admission Program B.A. in Judaic Studies/M.B.A. Attached please find a proposal for a new program titled "5 Year Early Admission Program B.A. in Judaic Studies/M.B.A." The proposal also includes a plan for the Judaic Studies Major (36 credits) in combination with a Business Minor (18 credits). I am bringing the plan to you for your review, and I respectfully request that you consider it for formal approval. The proposed B.A./M.B.A. program was designed in consultation with Mr. John Levato in the School of Business. Mr. Richard Collier (Undergraduate Studies), Dr. Stanley Isser (Judaic Studies), and Dr. Gregory Stevens (College of Arts and Scie nces) reviewed previous drafts of the proposal, offered useful suggestions, and helped make necessary adjustments that resulted in its present form. The plan was formally approved by the Department of Judaic Studies and has the support of Dean Paul Leonard of the School of Business. It was also discussed at the recent winter meeting the Jewish Studies Advisory Board, where it received an enthusiastic endorsement. It is worth noting that the proposal does not include a request for funding from the College, nor does the plan as a whole require any substantial investment of funds. Meanwhile, the Center for Jewish Studies is prepared to invest its own funds in order to publicize, promote, and manage the new B.A./M.B.A. program. Moreover, I intend to ask the Jewish Studies Advisory Board and some community donors to help create a new endowed fund to support worthy students who wish to enter the program. Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions. Thank you for consideration in this regard. 5 Year Early Admission Program B.A. i n J udai c St udi es/ M.B.A. ( 5 Year s) Judaic Studies Major Business Minor (18 credits) INTRODUCTION The early M.B.A. option is designed for students majoring in selective areas of the liberal arts and sciences who wi sh to obtain the M.B.A. degree in five years.
