Toward the end of the Alban
line, King Procas was the father
of Numitor and Amulius.
At Procas' death, Numitor
became king of Alba Longa, but
Amulius captured him and sent
him to prison.
Amulius forced Numitor's
daughter, Rhea Silvia, to
become a virgin priestess
among the Vestals.
Mars fell in love with Rhea Silvia
and she bore him twin sons,
Romulus and Remus.
Rhea Silvia was put to death and
the twins were abandoned along
the Tiber river.
The river
flooded and
the twins
were found
by a she-wolf.
They were eventually found by a
shepherd named Faustulus.
When Romulus and Remus
became adults, they killed
Amulius and restored Numitor
to the throne.
