Although the title of the courses is similar the contents are different. Students can take both of these courses; one of them will fulfill the language core
requirement and the other can be taken as an elective.

Students who enter the program with a deficiency in their previous work in linguistics should also take ALIN 520 to remedy the deficiency; this does not count
toward the 36-credit degree requirement.
